IIT JEE 2013: new notifications

Ending all speculation amongst the engineering aspirants for IIT Jee 2013, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IITs, has put forth some of the guidelines for the exam to be held in 2013. The board has acknowledged that any change in the paper patterns would lead to more stress and needless upheaval. With the announcement that the Advanced Test will have the same pattern as that in the last few years, the board has ensured that the students who have already started preparing will not be affected. It has also categorically stated that there will be no subjective portion for the exams to be held in 2013. However the JAB has also made it clear that this would be applicable only for the IITJee exam 2013.

In another notification, the HRD ministry has mentioned that the 1.5 lakh shortlisted students of the IIT JEE 2013 MAIN exam will include students from all categories including the reserved ones. However the All India Ranks will still be the basis for admission into the IITs. The actual mechanism for the admission process has not been made clear but the usual percentage of reservation in IITs till date for different categories has been 27% for OBC, 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST.

In another development, The HRD ministry has given a second chance to all those students who have already cleared their board exams in 2012 and aspire to appear for the IIT JEE 2013. They will be allowed to reappear for the board exams in 2013 to ensure their place in the top 20% percentile students eligible to write the Advanced Test of the IIT JEE 2013.This is to ensure that the primary eligibility criteria of the IIT JEE 2013 viz performance in the board exams be met. This step has been taken taking into account the delay in finalising the finer details of the exam.

From 2013, the primary criteria to appear for the IIT JEE would be the scores in the boards exams with only the top 20% being eligible to take the Advance Test.
