Indian Nominations And Winners In Oscar


Indian audience was excited to see some celebrities to walk on the red carpet at the time of 85th Oscar award ceremony. Life of PI who won
four awards in Oscars is also an India-based movie. In Oscars some Indian talented celebrities also nominated and won the Oscar.
In this year Annual Academy Awards, with a few Indian names finding place in several of the films nominated in various categories.

In Oscars most prominent Indian nominees is Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri, whose sang a Lullaby song in Ang Lee's Life of Pi which won four Oscar awards. This Lullaby song has been nominated for Best Original Song.

Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri : Jayashri ‘s song in Life Of Pi  has been nominated in the Best Original Song category along with composer Mychael Danna. A R Rahman, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty also won the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire in recent years. So again it raised the hope of Indian talents.

Suraj Sharma: Suraj Sharma who wins best Original Score at Oscars  walked the red carpet along with Tabu and Ang Lee at the Golden Globes for Life Of Pi  attend the Oscars with Irrfan, his Indian co-actor in the film. Another Indian film with an Indian connect is Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty.

The film has interested the Indian audience because major portions were shot in Chandigarh and Rajasthan.

Bhanu Athaiya : Costume designer Bhanu Athaiya was the first Indian to have won an Oscar. She won the Best Costume Design award with John Mollo for Richard Attenborough's 1982 film, Gandhi, which won eight Oscars.

Satyajit Ray received an honorary award for Lifetime Achievement in Cinema in 1991 a few weeks before his death.
